WHO ARE WE? Let it Land Theatre began as a friendship between two women who love theatre. Their mandate is to produce plays and create evocative original theatrical works that speak to audiences with a focus on women's lives and experiences. We nurture, promote, and produce the work of woman playwrights, directors, actors, designers and technicians. We are dedicated to giving a voice to women through theatre. The term "let it land" is a term that was used by acting teachers from the professional acting school, Studio 58 in Vancouver B.C., meaning "take it in and let it effect you - let it land". She is a local Ottawa actor who graduated from the Theatre program at the University of Ottawa, and trained at Studio 58 in Vancouver. She co-founded Let it Land Theatre with Maureen Smith and performed in the highly acclaimed two woman show The Drowning Girls at the 2000 Ottawa Fringe Festival. She will be appearing in Life AFter God in January 2009 and was recently seen in 4Play - One Acts by David Ives and as the zany Ernestine in The Anger in Ernest and Ernestine both for Vision Theatre. Most recent memorable roles include- Catherine in the OLT Award winning production of Proof (EODL./Theatre Ontario/Capital Critics), Annie in Mail-Order Annie (OLT), and Moo in Moo (Sockin’ Buskin). She spends her days as a Public Servant where she “acts” as a Business Analyst. In her spare time she walks and playsl with her two Terrific WF Terriers. It's always a pleasure to be playing with Maureen. Maureen Smith -- Directed JEWEL by Joan MacLeod. She is a local professional Ottawa actor who graduated from the BFA Theatre program at the University of Alberta. She co-founded Let it Land Theatre with Chantale Plante and performed in the highly acclaimed two woman show The Drowning Girls at the 2000 Ottawa Fringe Festival. Maureen most recently appeared in Talking With, a Canplay Production. Additional selected credits include, Swollen Tongues, The Last Liberal, Feelgood, The Forest and The Begats (for GCTC), Twelfth Night, and All’s Well that Ends Well (for NAC), The Comedy of Errors (St. Lawrence Shakespeare Co.), On the Verge Festivals (NAC,GCTC). Maureen holds a first degree black belt in Taekwon-do (ITF) and also teaches drama for the Ottawa School of Speech and Drama. She is pleased to be back with Let it Land Theatre directing and working with her “Drowning Girl” Chantale. JEWEL PRODUCTION FOLKS: Natalie Gisele (Stage Manager) -- Natalie is a graduate of Algonquin College theatre arts program. Although she began as an actor, she has been working as a stage manager for 3 years. Natalie is now the house SM for New Ottawa Repertory Theatre, she has also worked with GCTC, Eddie May, Third Wall and at Centerpointe. She is very excited to be working for the first time at the Fringe festival and with Let It Land Theatre.
